Little Bird and the Moon Sandwich

Little Bird and the Moon Sandwich

Little Bird, a baby goose, and Alfonse, a big goose, discuss the qualities of the moon on a bright moonlit night.  Will the moon fall from the sky?  Is the moon made of cheese?  The discussion they have is sweetly innocent and holds that childlike magical fascination with things before science is learned. When the moon is thought to have fallen into the pond, the other geese fight to get its delicious cheese.  But in the end, the moon cannot fall from the sky.  Berkowitz's book is a beautifully written and painted story with adorable characters and a lovely nighttime setting.  Great!

Adorable tale of a duck and a gander (goose) competing for the title of "champion of champions" .  What start out as simple and bird-like contests, (Who can swim the best? Who can fly the highest?) turn into a ridiculous game to see who can keep still the longest.  When a hungry fox strolls upon the overly-competitive friends, who will move first and risk losing the game to stay safe from the carnviorous fox?

The pictures are good, with enough silliness, but the story is very well written and keeps the reader engaged.
